Is BLAKE'S 7 getting the BATTLESTAR GALACTICA treatment and getting a new series? According to the Hollywood
Reporter, "Sky One is planning to remake cult '80s space (opera) series Blake's Seven."
For those who've never heard of it that's a classic British series, created by Terry Nation, from circa the 70s. What's it about and how long will it last? Well, "Sky (One) has commissioned two 60-minute scripts with the intention of creating a new sci-fi series of the hugely popular show, which followed the intergalactic tales of a small band of rebel fighters struggling to evade the dark forces of the Federation."
It could be good. The British have managed to do quite well with series retreads, like DR. WHO which, so far, has managed to produced two spin-off series: TORCHWOOD and THE ADVENTURES OF SARAH JANE SMITH. A more in depth article about the series can be found here.
In brief there's also buzz about a live action remake in the works of anime Ghost in the Shell coming from DreamWorks. You can find some info about the SWORD AND THE SORCERER remake, TALES OF AN ANCIENT EMPIRE, here. I'd mention there's talk of a Bill & Ted remake but the mere idea makes my brain hurt almost as much as the idea of Madonna starring in a remake of Casablanca. So I'll just leave you with the following IMDB mystery entries: Cobalt 60, Robotech, Scanners, Starfighter, Dune, Fantastic Voyage, Space Invader, The Sorcerers Apprentice, TRON, World War Z, The Man Who Fell to Earth, and- as if the previous wasn't bad enough- Masters of the Universe.
Here's a novel idea. How about remaking movies that actually could use a update, like, oh, say something made over 50+ years ago! Movies like: Aelita: Queen of Mars, Metropolis, or. . or. .
I sense a disturbance in the force that might just lead to a rant coming to this blog space soon. In the meantime enjoy the news!
